Quarantine was a relief for most introverts.

Before the pandemic, they needed to make excuses to stay at home but after it, they had all the reasons to stay away from all human population.

I am an introvert, and I didn’t hate quarantine. There are billions of people like me who love to stay at home and avoid people.

But social connections are crucial for good brain health. Your anxiety or fear of socializing is costing you your brain health.

Anti-social behavior can change your brain. It can lower your IQ and put you at a higher risk of substance abuse.

Here’s what you can do:-

  • Make a promise to yourself to talk to a stranger daily.
  • Who knows you might end up your lonely lover.
  • Get out of the house daily for at least 30 minutes.
  • Buy groceries at a local store and not online.
  • Call a friend, whom you haven’t spoken to in months.

2. Don’t hustle too much

Hustle culture is all the hype. In this economy, you need to have a side hustle to save some extra money.

But working long hours can rapidly decrease your brain health. A side hustle is a blessing until you overwork yourself into the ground.

Too much work makes your wallet heavier and your brain older. An overworked brain has low cognitive power because it ages faster.

So, working extra hours will help you earn a side income but at the cost of your brain health.

Work on a side hustle but don’t overwork yourself into the ground.

Here’s what you can do:-

  • Decide a time after which you are not allowed to work.
  • Close your laptop three hours before bedtime.
  • Don’t work on your phone.
  • Set a deadline for each task.

3. It’s all about Location!

Your brain fog could be a result of your environment. Living in a high pollution environment can cause irreversible damage to your brain.

Air pollution increases the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Cognitive decline and behavioral changes are common effects of air pollution.

So, polluted air damages more than just your lungs, it can cause an early onset of many incurable brain diseases.

You cannot control the air quality of your city. But you can make certain changes to combat the effects of poor air quality.

I live in Delhi, where the government closes schools and colleges to protect the students from harmful air. So, I have learned to deal with it.

Here’s what you can do:-

  • invest in a good quality air purifier to keep your brain young and healthy.
  • Keep your windows closed during the daytime.
  • Wear an N95 mask daily.

4. Don’t miss this meal

Intermittent fasting is all the rage. Delaying breakfast to complete the fasting cycle is a common practice.

Some people opt to skip breakfast altogether and start their day with a heavy lunch.

Skipping breakfast can alter your short-term memory and reduce attentiveness. Low cognition, slow response, and irritability are common side effects of skipping breakfast.

Skipping breakfast can affect your mood and productivity.

You can follow intermittent fasting and still eat a healthy breakfast.

Here’s what you can do:-

  • Aim for a 14-hour fast and break it with a healthy breakfast.
  • Have dinner early, so that you can have breakfast in the morning.
  • Make your breakfast high in protein and fiber.

5. The fastest way to wreck your brain health

Water is crucial for brain health. Even 1% dehydration can cause decrease your cognitive abilities by 5%.

2% brain dehydration can cause brain fog and decrease mental clarity. Prolonged dehydration can shrink the size of your brain cells.

Afternoon slumps and mid-day unproductivity are symptoms of dehydration. You can boost your work performance just by drinking more water.

Make sure to sip water throughout the day to protect your brain from the damaging effects of dehydration.

Here’s what you can do:-

  • Keep a water bottle at your desk at all times.
  • Drink delicious herbal teas.
  • Start your day with a tall glass of water.
  • Travel with a reusable water bottle.


These bad habits can seriously impact your brain health. Low cognition will lead to poor focus which will harm your productivity.

Unproductive work is the biggest reason for procrastination, which can further lead to failure and low self-esteem.
