Cristiano Ronaldo told to ‘retire like Pique and respect his legacy’ after horror show

Cristiano Ronaldo has been told to follow in the footsteps of Gerard Pique and retire following Manchester United’s miserable defeat against Aston Villa.

The 37-year-old, who celebrated the most recent of his five Ballon d’Or triumphs back in 2017, was given the captains’ armband by Erik ten Hag but was again off the pace.

Ronaldo failed to score with his three shots at goal and was also booked as United slipped to a 3-1 defeat. The forward has now scored only three goals across 16 appearances this season

After the defeat, a Twitter user said: “Ronaldo should respect his legacy and retire like Pique.” A second posted: “Ronaldo should just do what pique did yesterday and retire…”

Another agreed: “RONALDO SHOULD DO A PIQUE AND RETIRE IMMEDIATELY IF HE LOVES UNITED
