Southampton’s valiant defending denied Manchester United three clear goalscoring chances within seconds of each other during the first half of their Saturday lunchtime Premier League showdown.

In the 19th minute of play at St Mary’s, Saints goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu saved Anthony Elanga’s powerful attempt at the near post.

After that, Bruno Fernandes attempted an aerial attempt following Bazunu’s parry, but it was stopped, and the ball fell to Danish attacker Christian Eriksen, whose shot on goal was blocked by a sliding tackle from the final Southampton defender.

Southampton were also able to prevent Manchester United from scoring from a corner which came about following the goalmouth scramble.
