According to Daily post, William Ruto will be inaugurated as Kenya’s fifth president today, Tuesday, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) will represent Nigeria there.
The nation’s Supreme Court confirmed Ruto’s victory in last month’s election last week.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, revealed this in a press release from the White House yesterday.
The announcement stated that Senator Babafemi Ojudu, the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, and Ambassador Zubairu Dada, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, will accompany the Vice President on the trip.
It read: “Prof. Osinbajo departs Abuja tonight and will join other leaders across Africa and beyond for the swearing-in ceremony scheduled to hold in Nairobi with about 20 heads of state expected to grace the ceremony”.
According to the statement, one of the highlights of the event would be the handing over the instruments of power including a ceremonial sword and a copy of Kenya’s Constitution to the new president by outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta.
It further noted that Nigeria and Kenya share very warm and long standing diplomatic relations underpinned by strong economic cooperation and cultural affinities.
The statement concluded saying Professor Osinbajo would return to Abuja after the event.
