Fabio Vieira scored his first Arsenal goal – and what a strike it was.
The Portuguese made his full Premier League debut for the Gunners against Brentford today following a £34 million summer move from Porto a few months ago.
With Martin Odegaard sidelined after picking up a knock, Vieira started in this competition for the very first time and he marked the occasion with an absolute peach of a goal
The midfielder made it 3-0 to Arsenal within four minutes of the restart when he let fly from the edge of the area.
However, Vieira initially hesitated to celebrate, standing stationary immediately after finding the net via the post.
And Don Goodman, speaking on commentary on Sky Sports, claims that the player didn’t even realise he had scored.
He said on Sky Sports: “What a goal it is. Look at that for precision. He stands still after that ball strikes the post. I think he may think it’s hit the post and come out. Look, he doesn’t move and then he realises the net has bristled. That is a stunner.”
A couple of excellent headers from William Saliba and Gabriel Saliba – his fourth goal for the North Londoners – helped Mikel Arteta’s side into a comfortable lead at the break.
But the stunning Vieira strike certainly put the game to bed as far as the three points were concerned.
This victory takes Arsenal top of the Premier League standings once again, after Spurs and Manchester City both won on Saturday.
