Manchester United forward Antony sends message to Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior

Manchester United star Antony has sent a message of support to his Brazil teammate Vinicius Junior.

The Real Madrid forward was targeted with a racist slur by agent Pedro Bravo, who said during a TV discussion that “in Spain, you have to respect rivals and stop playing the monkey”. The comment was made in relation to a goal celebration by the Madrid attacker.

Bravo subsequently apologised on social media. Vinicius Junior, 22, responded by saying: “Accept it, respect it. In any case, I will not stop! Weeks ago, some people started to criticise my dancing. But the dancing is not mine alone.

“They belong to Ronaldinho, Neymar, [Lucas] Paqueta, [Antoine] Griezmann, Joao Felix, Matheus Cunha… Brazilian funk singers and samba dancers, Latin reggaeton singers, Black Americans. They are dances to celebrate the cultural diversity of the world.

“They say that happiness bothers. The happiness of a black Brazilian being successful in Europe bothers much more. But my will to win, my smile and the sparkle in my eyes are much bigger than that.”

Now, his international colleague Antony has shown his support. Writing on his Instagram account, the United winger posted a picture of both players in action for Brazil along with the caption: “We are who we are and we are very proud of it. Always with you my brother.”

Both players will be hoping to make the cut for the Brazil squad ahead of this winter’s World Cup. Brazil open their campaign against Serbia on November 24 as they look to end a 20-year drought to once again lift the famous trophy.
