The wedding day is typically the most important day in a person’s life. A once-in-a-lifetime occasion that is (typically) filled with tears, love, laughing, and happiness. The little things also become much more lovely and emotional on this day.
Perhaps it’s a surprise the bride and groom’s parents have planned, a heartfelt speech by close friends, or in this instance, a special dance that makes all the wedding guests cry.
The momentous occasion for Christina and Luke Riholt arrived in the fall of 2008.
For everyone, but especially for the bride-to-mother be’s Rebecca, who had ALS, it was a wonderful occasion. She was in a wheelchair and was conscious of the limited amount of time she had.

But in the meantime, Rebecca was full of life, ready for the moment when her beloved son would say ‘yes’ to his fiancée. But what Rebecca did not know is that Luke did something very special that will make this day a moment that will never be forgotten.. He organized a mother and son dance to the sounds of Mariah Carey’s song ‘Hero’.
In front of his bride and all wedding guests, Luke got down on his knees to be at the same height as his mother who was in a wheelchair. He kissed her on the forehead, took her hand, and gently led her to the dance floor. The gesture was so beautiful, powerful and moving, that not even a single dry eye remained in the hall.
“This is probably the most emotional moment I have ever experienced”, Christina said.
Less than a year later, Rebecca passed away. But as hard as it was for Luke to say goodbye, he will always have that memory: the charming smile, tears of happiness, and unforgettable moment in which he danced with his mother on his wedding day.
